Student Wins CSOSA’s Caribbean CSEC Star Award

Desirée Inniss is the first winner of the CSOSA’s Combermere Caribbean CSCE Star award created by the Academic Development Group to provide an incentive for students to place FIRST in CSEC exams in the Caribbean. It is part of the new Combermere Alumni Excellence Awards. Desirée is the only one of two (2) CSEC students who had such a stellar performance in the CXC CSEC exams and who continued her studies at Combermere
The student who wins this award must place first in the Caribbean in CXC CSEC Exams (formerly Ordinary Level) and must be prepared to continue his/her education at Combermere School. This phenomenon is not likely to occur every year because of intense competition from the number of students in the Caribbean taking the same exam, yet it will be held there as an incentive.
Desirée Inniss placed first in CSEC in the entire Caribbean in Chemistry in 2020. She also performed very well in French and Biology gaining Grade 1 passes in each subject. Mrs. June Browne, former Deputy Principal at Combermere has willingly volunteered to teach her lessons in CAPE UNIT 2 Biology. This award will therefore cover her preparation for exams in French CAPE UNIT 2
Her French tutor was highly recommended by Mrs. Marva Lahai, a retired French teacher who was recently honoured by former members of the Combermere Girl Guides unit, with the inauguration of the Marva Lahai Award. Desirée’s private tuition will begin immediately, since time is galloping away. Her award is not dependent on the selection panel set up to determine the winner of the other Combermere Alumni Excellence Awards.
The response by Combermere Old Scholars to these In-school awards designed to pay for private tuition has been extremely encouraging. We do invite all Old Scholars to contribute towards this Scholarship Fund. Please help us to keep these awards going annually. By so doing, you will be making a direct impact on the performance of our students and helping them to fulfill their potentialities.
It will all lead to an enhancement of the academic profile of our beloved school.
We encourage the Combermere Alumni Excellence Awards for the benefit of current and future students. Should you wish to support this initiative you may do so by going to the CSOSA website.
Up and On!
